St Hilda’s Anglican Church in Katoomba is investigating the use of a mezzanine floor for the interior of a historic church building to increase seating capacity.

  • Width = 12m

  • Depth = 5.5 m

  • Height =  allow 2.5-2.7m clearance underneath

(We can negotiate on depth and height measurement if that makes design simpler)

Design

  • Nice black finish (not too industrial looking),

  • Expected load – 50-60 people, wooden tier structure and fixed seating

  • Ideally 2 sets of stairs coming up underneath the mezzanine on each of the short sides. (Can the steps stay within or close to the footprint of the mezzanine? Does this impact what height it can be?)

  • Ideally supported by 8 (or even 6?) vertical supports, if possible, to maintain good access underneath

  • Double height railing on the back length, as we will have tiered seating on the mezzanine.

  • We will need to reinforce foundations at the position of the supports
